Rules of the Road

  • Wear a helmet…Every trip, every time.
  • Only ride a bicycle that is the right size for you – oversized bikes can be dangerous.
  • Always check your equipment before you ride – especially the brakes.
  • Stay alert – always be aware of what is around you & lookout for obstacles.
  • See & be seen – avoid biking at night & wear brightly colored clothing.
  • NO passengers – always ride one to a bike.
  • Keep both hands on the handlebars.
  • Even on the sidewalk & bike paths, it’s important to be alert for cars and other dangers.
  • Learn & follow the Rules of the Road.

Children under 10 years of age are generally not considered old enough to bike independently on neighborhood streets and roads.
