By providing public education programs and a variety of responder training opportunities, Central Georgia Region 5 EMSC (R5 EMSC) works to prevent childhood injury and improve the care of children suffering from acute illness and injury.  The R5 EMSC Advisory Council disseminates Georgia EMSC programs within our region and also functions as a resource for EMS personnel and the regional community.  Established in 2002, R5 EMSC meets bi-monthly and provides quarterly reports to the Regional EMS Advisory Council.

Annual R5 EMSC activities include the Cans for Kids Campaign, EMS for Children Art Contest, and EMS Week Cookout.  Additionally, R5 EMSC volunteers collaborate with agencies and organizations throughout the region to promote EMSC prevention and education initiatives.

Central Georgia Region 5 Emergency Medical Services for Children, in partnership with the Region 5 Regional Trauma Advisory Committee, is excited to announce the winners of this year’s EMS Region 5 Art Contest. This annual competition encourages students to use their creativity and talent to raise awareness of EMS professionals and how to stay safe. The art contest is open to four groups spanning pre-K through 12th grade.

Students’ artwork should focus on a theme belonging to the two main categories below 1- EMS Awareness and 2- Injury Prevention and Safety. Students may create artwork using one of the suggested themes or another related theme or topic of their choosing.

Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Program

The Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) program is a US federal government health initiative, aiming to reduce child and youth disability and death due to severe illness or injury. This is being accomplished with ongoing efforts to increase awareness among health professionals, providers, planners, and the general public of the unique physiological and psychological needs of children receiving emergency medical care. EMSC funds and supports improvements in pediatric emergency care in each state and territory through competitive grants and cooperative agreements.

Mission – To reduce child and youth mortality and morbidity resulting from severe illness or trauma
