2023 Pediatric Trauma Symposium

Central Georgia EMS Region Five recognizes the remarkable contributions of Georgia’s EMS Providers and our Trauma System Partners in saving children’s lives. The Regional Pediatric Symposium is the result of the collaborative efforts of the EMS Region 5 Regional Trauma Advisory Committee (RTAC), Central Georgia EMS for Children, the Region 5 Advisory Council Education Committee, and the Regional EMS Directors Association.

While the 2023 Pediatric Trauma Symposium is designed primarily with the educational needs of prehospital practitioners in mind, others providing emergent care to children are always welcome to attend. We aim to improve the lives of children by sharing tools and information specific to preventing pediatric injury and providing optimal trauma care.

STOP THE BLEED® – Back to School Training Blitz

Help given by an immediate responder can often make the difference between life and death. The STOP THE BLEED® Course is designed for those who have little or no medical training, but who may be called upon to provide initial trauma care and bleeding control prior to the arrival of Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

This course is designed to educate and prepare community members on what to do in a bleeding emergency. It includes a live course presentation with instruction on tourniquet application, wound packing, and pressure application. This 1-hour program is being taught by highly trained and experienced STOP THE BLEED® educators and trauma providers from Georgia’s Trauma System.

Additional Details:

Our live virtual sessions are designed with our K-12 and higher education partners in mind. School system partners, homeschooling parents, college students, and community members are also invited to attend. High school students are also welcome to participate along with their Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) and Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) educators.

Prospective instructors (i.e., Athletic Trainers, Health Science Instructors, School Nurses, School Resource Officers, etc.) interested in teaching STOP THE BLEED® courses are invited to attend a brief (additional 45 minutes hour) instructor orientation provided after each 10:00 am session.

Hands-on practice and skills training is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and necessary to obtain a “full” STOP THE BLEED® certification; there is NO REQUIREMENT for scheduling in-person checkoffs for those participating in the Virtual Blitz. We encourage participants to work with local STOP THE BLEED® instructors to plan follow-up hands-on training sessions. Contact information for volunteer instructors and regional STOP THE BLEED® Champions can be found at www.stopthebleedgeorgia.org

These webinars are not intended to replace any planned in-person STOP THE BLEED® courses. You can also request in-person training sessions here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/STBcourserequestform.

National Trauma Survivors Day celebration seeks to draw inspiration from and provide support to survivors of traumatic injuries and their caregivers, opening the road to their recovery from trauma. During this event, we encourage all those who support these patients to write them a note of inspiration to aid in the recovery process and to share this note via social media thereby creating one strong voice for recovery from injury.

Simply posting a message of hope and support by every one of us will create an unprecedented voice of compassion and solidarity from the trauma community on behalf of our patients and their families.
